KAT YARBROUGH

My earliest musical memories come from my parents. As a child, my mother would always wake me by singing a song and whenever it rained, my father and I would sit on the back porch while he played songs on his guitar. When I was five, my grandmother gave us her upright piano. It was old and the keys were scratched but I would play it for hours trying to come up with melodies to sing along to. As I grew older, I took private piano lessons and eventually joined the orchestra in elementary/middle school focusing on classical violin studies. It was in that orchestra where I fell in love with the ensemble sound. The special comradery of being in an ensemble was memorable and the challenge of becoming a better musician was inspiring. For the next two decades I continued my musical studies in flute, guitar, and finally classical/jazz voice. My heart has always led me back to music. Becoming a music educator was just the icing on the cake! Being able to share my knowledge and experience with others has only made me a better musician and human being.
